I am excited to be participating in my first ever blog tour which is an awesome way to help normalize the conversation about sex in this country by expanding the number of people who get to hear my message! So this week’s blog is going to focus on what is compelling me to spread my message through my writing and why I love to write.
I want to thank Susan Clarke for inviting me to be on this tour. I loved reading about her passion for writing and how it helped her deal with so many of life’s challenge. She does great work in helping her clients “Come Alive”.
Writing has always been second nature to me but until fairly recently my writing has primarily been technical and full of jargon. Law school taught me how to write succinctly and persuasively but always in the third person. My first dozen blog posts were very factual and gave great information about freeing the female orgasm, using the PC muscle to have better sex, the impact of porn on our sex lives, and having great sex without taking your clothes off. All good stuff, all necessary, all well received by my followers. But the paradigm had not shifted, just the topic.
One December day, when I was really feeling the winter blues and in despair about my career choice, I happened to watch a video of Gretchen Rubin, a former lawyer turned NYT best selling author of “The Happiness Project”. She talked about how writing helped her find her true calling and helped her heal from the trauma of hating being a lawyer yet feeling like she lacked the skills to do anything else. It was at that exact moment, that I realized that my path to sexual healing was also through writing and speaking about my own personal experience authentically and vulnerably.
Since that moment, my writing has changed drastically and so has my career success. Some of the articles that I am most proud of also show me at my most vulnerable. Becoming Cock Conscious , My Love Hate/Affair with My Vagina, and Poly..Agony were all published in Elephant Journal and received great responses. I realize now that when I can share my true feelings with my readers, I give them permission to examine their own feelings and beliefs. My passion for writing and speaking continues and I just completed the outline for my first book, “Living an Orgasmic Life”… now I just need to write 200 more pages…
